Pacific BioChar
BioChar helps save water and retain nutrients. BioChar also helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by stabilizing carbon atoms. The stable carbon atoms become a substrate that is useful in the garden.
Our Biochar is made from softwood-forestry residues. The material has been cooked in such a way that the wood’s carbon atoms lock into place and are now a substrate for microbes, water, and fertilizers to cling to. On a molecular level, Biochar is made up of sheets of Graphene Oxide. The oxygen atoms that are attached to the carbon sheet give it polarity. Polarity allows the sheet to attract and hold onto water and fertilizer. Biochar saves water, fertilizer, and prevents fertilizer run-off.

Current research
Adding biochar to the soil can improve crop growth and yield because of its positive effects on microbial activity and carbon storage and fixation.
The soil microbiota that biochar promotes increases enzymatic activity in the soil, which can improve chemical mobility and availability for the crops with little to no negative effects on crop growth.
With the increasing prevalence of degraded soils around the world, biochar should be considered a beneficial soil amendment that can rebuild chemical, biological, and physical soil characteristics.
Biochar is known to improve the chemical composition of soil, which can be especially good in soils with toxic components where biochar reduce toxicity.
